Energy Star products really do make a difference! When shopping for a television, for instance, a 42” TV would cost 46$ per year – an energy star 42” TV would cost no more than 21 per year.

Lighting alone accounts for 12% of the electric power in the average home, which has an average of 30 blubs. By replacing these with CFL’s you can save up to 200 dollars every year. Additionally these bulbs don’t produce as much heat, therefore cooling costs in the summer will also be reduced.

Replacing refrigerators made in 1984 will save you more than $104 annually.

Similarly, replacing the dishwasher is like getting 18 loads of dishes washed for free.

Upgrading the laundry room can reduce water use by 35-50% and energy use by 20-50%.

Replacing the furnace can save 25% of your heating costs, often more – depending on the older furnace.

Ceiling fans will cost you only $2/month to use, as opposed to air conditioners that will cost you $10-40/ month.
